STC Obtains PSM Clarification

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

In an interpretation letter dated October 27, 2010, OSHA clarified their policies related to Vendor-owned and operated systems of process safety management (PSM)-covered chemical supply systems on industrial sites.  Such sites are relatively common in the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries where a chemical supplier owns and operates a gas or chemical supply system to a production process that is owned by the host company.

A copy of the original request letter and the OSHA interpretation letter is available on the Resources page of our website at http://www.specialtytechnicalconsultants.com/resources/.  If you have further questions on these issues or wish help interpreting shared roles between suppliers and hosts for PSM systems, please contact Barb Ruble or 410-625-1952.

Free! All are welcome.

Most line operators and technicians know that they can do minor adjustments, clear jams, and minor servicing to equipment without locking it out.  But, do you, as a safety professional, know what conditions that equipment must meet before those operators are allowed to use the “minor service” exemption to Lockout/Tagout?  Does your production equipment meet these conditions?

This seminar will discuss the “minor service” exemption to lockout/tagout and how it relates to machine guarding, as OSHA interprets it in their publications, interpretations, and enforcement.  Learn what conditions to look for and resolve before they turn into an accident or an OSHA violation! Our presenter will be Randy A. Roig, Ph.D and co-founder of STC, is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in the fields of EHS auditing and management systems development.

Space is limited. Reserve your Webinar seat now at: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/301817282
